The long hobble back to the finish. One of my most painful sessions!
I had a look around, but there was no easy way back. No vehicle tracks, or even any useful walking tracks. I just had to guts it out.
I found a way to walk leading with my right foot, and shuffling my left foot back together with the right. It was slow going up hill, and the first 100m took around 6 minutes. I got better as I learned the technique. I also tried to avoid the lantana and creek crossings, but some were inevitable. The worst part was crossing a fence when I had to engage my calf half way through the barbed wire.
I saw 5 or 6 people on the way back, but there was little that they could do for me, so I waved them on.
