Easter Day 2 Long Distance
Shanty Gully, Warwick, QLD

7th place in M21E
112 minutes
winner was Simon Uppill in 99 minutes.

This was an epic long distance race. It was made more physically difficult by hot 30 degree temperatures, long grass and stony ground over many of the hillsides. There was also lantana, but I tried to avoid most of that.

I ran a good race (mostly on my own) and I was able to tough it out in the last half and finish strongly.

I had small time losses at 4 and 18. In both cases there seemed to be some extra gullies not marked on the map that confused me.

On the way to 9 I lost my way a little and ended up running through 15 and 13, but I just kept running in the general direction and lost no time.
I climbed a bit early on the way to 9 and lost some time in the green. I took some time to take a gel here (with no water), as I needed the extra energy to get up the hill. It didn't really kick in to near 12 as I really struggled with the climb and long grass out of 11.

After 12 I found some more strength and accelerated through the flatter and less grassy part of the course to finish strongly.
