National Orienteering League #3 (11/03/2012)
Category: Competition
Map/area: Chinaman Flat
Organiser: Nicola Dalheim
Country: Australia
Discipline: Long - Hageby
Distance: 14.39 km
Time: 88:53
I started well, staying with the lead pack until the 2nd last control on the first loop. I had a split away from most of the pack, which involved a larger than mapped expanse of thick bracken. It took what felt like ages to get through it, and when I had, the pack had well and truly gone.
I struggled for speed on the second lap, but a group of 8 formed mid way through the 3rd lap. I found myself off the back after a small error near 27, and then spent the next 4 controls dragging myself back. I took the track on the long leg and caught them all except Craig Dufty. I chased him hard for the last 2km but I couldn't quite drag him in. He ended up catching Josh at the last control, but I wasn't close enough.
It was a fun competition, but I didn't do much orienteering. I think I only navigated to 2 or 3 controls out of 36!
