I think #2 was much higher than indicated, and not 100% sure of #15, but that does not explain my mistake at 24

I reckon #2 was approx 2 contours to high because I contoured around to #3 and was then already very close to the spur. It was also a long way up along this gully to get there. I have got the same result there with my GPS but not with #15:
